I have been hearing about "AUGUST TO JUNE" since Dr. Glenn DeVoogd first got wind of it. It was shown at the Cesar Chavez Conference the same weekend "Like a Scapegoat on a Pendulum" was premiered.
Just by chance, I missed seeing this film, and the creators of the film missed mine.
Thank goodness this was not the end.
Dr. DeVoogd, who is forever matching up individuals who are of the same heart and mind, put me in contact with the producers of this film.
After I watched the trailer, I felt as though I had just been privy to viewing a long lost dream of mine. I remembered what I wanted my classroom to look and feel like.
I wrote Amy Valens, the teacher.
Oh, Amy!
The joy and the sorrow!
I know it was not your intention to make people weep when they saw that trailer, or perhaps it was.
It's emotionally provocative!...
Just that "peek" into your class ( the art, the sense of community, the giving and taking...) makes me so nostalgic for the beautiful experiences I had as a learner, and sad...sad for the children who will never have the chance to experience the love and beauty and...spirit...of a total-learning humane classroom such as yours.
Sniff.
Sniff.
Sob.
The filming was artistic! And the editing as well!
My film "feels" more like my post:NCLB classroom, very uncreative and skeletal in comparison with yours.
( That makes me laugh---we live what we learn, and learn what we live, right?)...
Beautiful! Beautiful!
Hoorah!...
Sincerely,
Brenda Cregor
