S.A.I.T.

Once there was a little country school.
It was populated mostly by students from
disadvantaged backgrounds who spoke
a language other than English.

Year after year, the school progressed on
their annual test scores, despite the
odds.

Yet, in spite of this continuance
of monumental progress,
teachers were harassed.
Careers were destroyed.
Children came to feel they were "dumb",
though in reality, they had accomplished
great things!

The school was placed in
Program Improvement.

The "wise" state decided to help the
teachers and administration.
They sent in a group of...
...of...?
Well, the teachers were never
introduced to the individuals who
were going to be judging them
and once again changing about
their curriculum and schedules.
They were the "S.A.I.T." group:
School Assistance Intervention Team.

For a couple of years, the
staff and administration
jumped through the prescribed hoops,
personally created new and
improved classroom visuals
and resources to aid their
teaching.

And what did they get for
all of their effort?

Nothing.

No gratitude.

No praise.

They were still in
Program Improvement.

And the "whip" was
not stayed.

But...where were "they"?
The state's all knowing
well paid
S.A.I.T. group, who were
supposedly the experts?

Where were they when their
"corrective measures" were
put into place and ...FAILED!

Were their names and faces in
newspapers?

No.

Were their jobs threatened?

No.

They just simply skulked away
back to their bureaucratic holes,
safely and soundly,
while the teachers and students
worked on and on
and on.
