NO KID HUNGRY = NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND

Washington, DC can create education legislation to "level the playing field" and "close the achievement gap", amongst the varied populations of American students, until environmentalists shut the city down for the number of trees being cut down to furnish the surface on which to print their mass articulations.

However, until our politicians and their cohorts of lobbyists actually read the DECADES of research which shows that children who go to school well fed and who are given nutritious and consistent meals outside school ACHIEVE at greater levels than their peers who do not, all of their words, and sanctions, and good intentions will just pave the way to more of the same nonsense and backward slides in public education we have experienced the past ten years under their guidance.

This morning Jeff Bridges, yes the actor ( most recently of TRUE GRIT), was on the news using his non-political fame to promote an organization.

It is called: NO KID HUNGRY.

I will type it again: NO KID HUNGRY

Founder, End Hunger Network (Photo from www.nokidhungry.org)

Imagine my utter surprise when Jeff Bridges not only mentioned the fact that most religions in this country preach about feeding the hungry, and yet millions of children within our own land ( while billions of taxpayer dollars are sent beyond our borders annually to help citizens of other nations progress) go hungry every day, and then...and then...the gentleman sitting next to Mr. Bridges, the founder of the campaign, stated the fact that: If we want our children to be competitive in the world         ( academically ), we need to feed them!

Where was this dear kind man when our politicians were putting together NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, which included fiscal sanctions for schools which did not raise their test scores annually, typically those populated by children from low socioeconomic backgrounds, but ignorantly left out any language to support feeding poor children to help them make academic gains?

I never thought I would say this in connection with education, but, "Hooray for Hollywood!"
