Where There's a Will, There's a Way

Before this school year began, our Public Education Advocacy Cohort (PEAC), made yet another trip to yet another politician's office, full of hope, to present what we believe would be positive changes to No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation, should the House of Representatives and the Senate revisit it in the near future.

Once again, we were welcomed. Our ideas were at times challenged, and at other times embraced.

Since our group is a reflection of MANY political points of view, it did not matter that this time we were in the office of Republican Congressman Nunes, when our previous meetings have been with Democrats.

The public should be aware that behind closed doors Democrats and Republicans agree on a large number of issues and agree there needs to be significant changes to NCLB and its ugly cousin, Race To The Top (RTTT).

Too bad the local representatives we have met with are not on any education committees in Washington, D.C. This is why we need help from other public education advocates in states where politicians ARE or will be directly involved in rewriting future educational policy.

We can do it!
