CATCHING UP OR LEADING THE WAY

Though former State Superintendent of California Public Schools, Jack O'Connell, and I differed on many issues. I was surprised at how "in touch" he was with the everyday concerns of teachers and students.

This is not something I found politicians readily available to discuss.

And more disturbingly, the CTA, California Teachers Association, did not make themselves available for comment either. How odd. Hm.

Jack O'Connell was a gentleman through and through. I enjoyed every moment of conversation with him ( and believe me, he allowed me to air my grievances for nearly half an hour---this was greatly appreciated).

He was photographed (above, right) with Janelle Bettencourt-Bagley, one of my faithful vastly under-compensated camera operators. I was incredibly impressed when he remembered every detail about her future plans when we left an hour later.

Dr. Yong Zhao was a contributor to LIKE A SCAPEGOAT ON A  PENDULUM. The format of the film did not do justice to this remarkable man's work on behalf of teachers and children.
